Language Focus: Notes C
Demonstrative pronouns
We use demonstrative pronouns to refer to things or people. We use this (singular) and these (plural) to refer to things that are close to us. We use the that (singular) and those (plural) to refer to things that are further away from us. Look at the examples below.
Notes:
We can also use this and these to introduce people.
e.g. This is John. He's my classmate.
These are my friends, Maggie and Keeve.
We can also use this/that and these/those to refer to something that somebody said or did.
e.g. Let’s watch the last movie of the Harry Potter series tonight!
That's a good idea! Let's go!
e.g. Do you want to know which student won an award for clothing design?
This will be featured in the next issue of the school magazine.
